A skin tag is considered to be a growth, although is really defined as a benign tumor.
This means that they are harmless, but annoying and sometimes irritating skin condition. The medical terminology is achrocordon or cutaneous papilloma.
A skin tag starts off as looking like a tiny mole, the size of a pinhead. It then grows over time, and sometimes it can grow to the size of a large grape. Some skin tags grow really quickly, yet others grow slowly and stay quite small. They can vary in size to microscopic to up to one and a half inches long, and they can vary in appearance from large, small, red, brown and many other colors.
What do skin tags look like
Some skin tags grow in isolation, and other skin tags like company and send out an invitation to their friends that there’s a party going on at your place!
There is no medical agreement as to what causes skin tags, although they are more common during pregnancy and as you get older you are more likely to develop them.
Skin tags can develop on any part of the body, with the most common areas being eyelids, neck, armpits, upper chest and groin.
